I spent a whole morning and good part of the afternoon making pictures for today´s
photo a day challenge.
Today´s prompt is : Your name
Not a real difficult one, I ( sh ) could have written my name on a piece of paper and Intagrammed it , edit it with a fancy app, send it in and call it a day!
But I wanted something else for a change, so I got up this morning and started with cutting letters.
I had no idea what I wanted but I needed the letters anyway.
Connected the letters to some beading thread.
Still no idea what to do, but I thought of something with shade so I wanted the letters be able to hang free.
It took some doing ( and time) to get the tiny letters connected as invisible as possible.
Put the threads on a little bamboo stick and took every thing downstairs to the living room
to get the best shade at that time.
Doors had to be opened to for the lens ( Sigma 70 - 300 mmD) to get it clear and sharp and not having my own shadow in it.
The sun moves pretty quick if you are taking pictures and loading up in the computer to check if there is at least one picture to work with, out of 30.
Did that 4 times and the sun kept on giving different shade.
Bonus! with the last shots there came a reflection in the aluminum table as well.
Another 60 or so pictures later….
This is what I ended up with sending in.
I removed the thread with my Mac photo editing, just from the letters, left the shade of the threads to show and enhanced the color a bit.
4 hours, thats what it took to take this one picture!
I am guessing that the majority of people do not even see the floating letters.
I did send it straight in ( did not want to start doubting myself and decide to write my name and instagram it.. )
Only to realize that most of the people joining the challenge are in bed and sleeping!
So very few likes for this one Hahahaha!
Yesterday I posted one I took a few weeks ago of being above the clouds for the promt "Soft", that took me about 3 seconds, and it got 74 likes!
The universe is telling me not to over think, once again!
( but I did enjoy doing it all! )

It's very creative! I like these floating letters / shadow idea a lot. And as long as you enjoyed the process, it doesn't matter about the likes :)
ReplyDeleteI like this process of coming up with an idea and finding out how to get it to live, I just need more experience with the technical side of it all :-))
DeleteWhat a great idea! Aniko is right, if you enjoyed making them, then who cares what the others think? (...or how much time is spent making them?)
ReplyDeleteFrom me, you get a virtual high five for also making them in pink! ;-) What kind of machine did you use for cutting the letters?
